This qualification reflects the role of educators in early childhood education and care who work in regulated children’s education and care services in Australia. Educators at this level are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum that meets the requirements of an approved learning framework and for maintaining compliance in other areas of service operations. They use specialised knowledge and analyse and apply theoretical concepts to diverse work situations. They may have responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other educators.

Early childhood educators work in long day care centres, family day care, pre-schools or kindergartens.

To achieve this qualification, the individual must have completed a total of least 280 hours of work in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency. The total number of hours may be applied collectively across all units of competency that include the requirement for workplace hours.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Under the Education and Care Services National Law (2011) the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) publishes lists of approved early childhood education and care qualifications and information regarding regulatory requirements here: www.acecqa.gov.au.

The Training Package requires that entry to the qualification is open to individuals who hold;

  • CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care; or
  • CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.

You must also

  • be at least 18 years of age
  • participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs
  • have an IELTS* score of 6.0 (test results must be no more than 2 years old). English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
    • educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country; or
    • successful completion of an English Placement Test at IELTS level 6.0.

Completing this course may provide you with employment or learning opportunities. Potential employment options are as an Educator in an Early Childhood Education and Care setting. Further education pathways may include higher education qualifications in early childhood education and care.

Work as an Early childhood educators in long day care centres, family day care, pre-schools or kindergarten

Student who completes this course may wish to continue their education into higher education qualifications in early childhood education and care.

Students will need to successfully complete all units in this course to receive certificate of CHC50121 – Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care. Learners who partially complete the qualification will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units they are deemed competent.

It is mandatory to complete work placement hours to be eligible for attainment of this qualification.

Student requires to complete 15 units including 12 core and 3 elective units to award this qualification

This course is delivered through face-to-face training and assessment, as well as through online learning and workplace-based training and assessment.

You are required to attend 20 Hours a weeks that includes face to face classes for 14 hours and online 6 hours.

You will also be required to complete a work placement of 280 hours.

You will also need to complete assessments for this course which may include:

  • Written questions
  • Projects
  • Presentations
  • Reports
  • Role plays/observations
  • Workplace hours logbook

At the beginning of each unit, your trainer and assessor will outline the assessment tasks that must be completed.

Your classes will be conducted in modern classrooms, and you will be able to access Wi-Fi. There are also areas for you to relax, as well as conduct additional study. 

You will be provided with a Student Guide relevant to each unit in your course.  

Satisfactory course progress and attendance is very important to meet visa requirements. Please read the International Student Handbook carefully for more information. You will also be provided with further information about course progress and attendance requirements at your orientation.

Please note that although we are required to offer you RPL, it would not be expected as an international student that you would pursue this opportunity as most likely you would not have relevant workplace experience and existing skills and knowledge.

If you are granted course credit, this will affect your course fees as well as the duration of your course. We will advise you in writing of changes to fees or course duration as a result of the credit. You will also be issued with a new Confirmation of Enrolment.
